SCHOOL OF CONTINUING EDUCATION

 

The School of Continuing Education, one of the eight Faculties/Schools/Academy of the University and a major provider of continuing and professional education in Hong Kong, offers a wide range of full-time and part-time programmes at the post-secondary, undergraduate and postgraduate levels for young learners and working adults. It also offers in-house training and short courses to meet the community needs and market demands. Operated on a self-financed basis, the School and its College of International Education currently employ about 400 full-time staff and 500 part-time instructors. The School is inviting applications for the following position:

 

Head of Information Technology (Ref. No.: 24250192)

 

Reporting to the Dean of the School, the appointee will be expected to assume strategic leadership in system migration and implementation, with focus on project management and stakeholder coordination. The appointee should also be an inspirational leader who would be able to cultivate a high-performing team of IT professionals.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive IT transition roadmap, ensuring seamless migration that minimally disrupts academic and administrative operations;
  • Engage with vendors and coordinate with diverse internal stakeholders—including academic divisions and administrative departments—to ensure that all migration efforts align with the university's strategic objectives;
  • Oversee large-scale IT implementation projects, leading them from inception to successful completion while ensuring alignment with institutional goals;
  • Coordinate user training and manage change management processes to foster smooth adoption of new systems and technologies;
  • Address user concerns and resistance through proactive communication and constructive feedback mechanisms;
  • Provide regular progress updates to senior management and stakeholders, ensuring clarity and accountability throughout the project lifecycle;
  • Develop and maintain a scalable, secure IT infrastructure to support the university’s evolving needs;
  • Implement robust cybersecurity frameworks and ensure compliance with university policies and regulatory requirements, safeguarding sensitive information;
  • Lead a team of IT professionals, driving the formulation and execution of innovative IT initiatives and projects that enhance operational efficiency and elevate user experience; and
  • Perform other IT projects and assignments as assigned.

 

Requirements:

  • A recognised bachelor’s degree or higher in an IT-related discipline;
  • Preferably 15 years of relevant experience or more, with at least 10 years in IT leadership roles;
  • Experience gained in a higher education environment will be an advantage;
  • Proven experience in IT leadership roles, particularly in managing large-scale system migrations and implementations;
  • Strong knowledge of IT infrastructure, cybersecurity measures, and compliance standards;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels;
  • Proven leadership skills with a track record of team management and development;
  • Ability to navigate change management and user adoption challenges effectively; and
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Cantonese.

 

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend a written assessment.

 

The initial appointment will be offered on a fixed-term contract ending in August 2027. Re-appointment thereafter will be subject to mutual agreement and availability of funding.

 

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
