SCE hosts international conference on active living and health

The Multi-disciplinary Research Centre (MRC) of HKBU’s School of Continuing Education jointly hosted the 2018 International Conference on Active Living and Health (ICALH) along with the Department of Sport and Physical Education as well as Dr. Stephen Hui Research Centre for Physical Recreation and Wellness recently on Shek Mun Campus.
Supported by a grant from the Research Grants Council (RGC) of the HKSAR Government, the 2-day conference was organised to bring together scholars, researchers, students and industry practitioners for the exchange of knowledge and latest research advances so as to bridge the gap between research and practice and in turn inspire the community to pursue a healthier and more active lifestyle.
Ten leading scholars, namely Prof. Thomas L. McKenzie of San Diego State University, USA, Prof. Sonia Lippke of Jacobs University Bremen, Germany, Prof. Julien S. Baker of University of the West of Scotland, UK, Prof. Sebastien Chastin of Glasgow Caledonian University, U.K. and Ghent University, Belgium, Prof. Cecilie Thøgersen-Ntoumani of Curtin University, Australia, Dr. Jason A. Bennie of University of Southern Queensland, Australia, Prof. Gladys Shuk Fong Li and Prof. Hsiu-Hua Wang of National Chung Cheng University, Taiwan, Prof. Bik Chu Chow of Hong Kong Baptist University, Hong Kong and Dr. Allison Wong of Hong Kong Sports Association for Persons with Intellectual Disability, were invited to deliver keynote speeches at the event.
There were 60 paper and poster presentations on a wide variety of themes, from physical activity and cognition, sleep and mental well-being, weight management and obesity, to physical activity and quality of life in older adults, physical activity in patients and special populations as well as narrative review and meta-analysis in health promotion.
The event was a resounding success with an attendance of 260 participants.
