Programme Features
The five-year full-time Bachelor of Nursing (Honours) Programme (BNurs) is accredited by the Nursing Council of Hong Kong (NCHK). Graduates will be eligible to obtain licence to practise as Registered Nurses (General) in Hong Kong. The programme prepares students to serve in a wide range of healthcare settings including acute, rehabilitation and community to help patients reach their greatest healing potentials. The programme’s distinctive features include:
- First nursing honours degree programme awarded by HKBU
- Experienced academic team with a wealth of clinical and teaching experiences
- Strong student support services and facilities offered by HKBU and SCE
- Design of the nursing laboratories with reference to private hospital specifications
- Curriculum comprises Western and Chinese medicinal nursing elements

Students who have successfully completed the five-year Programme and fulfilled all graduation requirements will be awarded the Bachelor of Nursing (Honours) by the Hong Kong Baptist University.
Graduates of the Programme are eligible to register as Registered Nurses (General) at the Nursing Council of Hong Kong upon completion of all Programme requirements.
In line with the HKBU Strategic Plan 2018-2028, the University offers its first full-time nursing degree programme, the Bachelor of Nursing (Honours) Programme (BNurs), in 2019 under the Division of Nursing Education (DNE), School of Continuing Education (SCE).
DNE aims to provide quality nursing education through its well qualified academic team. The BNurs will equip students with the knowledge, skills and attitudes to excel as competent, compassionate and ethical healthcare professionals.

This course has been included in the list of reimbursable courses under the Continuing Education Fund. The mother course (Bachelor of Nursing (Honours)) of this module is recognised under the Qualifications Framework (QF Level 5).
* Different courses are available for students' selection under this category.
The medium of instruction for classroom teaching is English, except for those courses that are granted exemption. All practicum courses will be conducted in Cantonese in order to prepare students for working with Hong Kong residents, the majority in local health care settings.

Scholarships to recognise students' outstanding achievements are bestowed on the selected recipients on the basis of academic merits or other criteria as set out by the School or donors.
Students can apply for Financial Assistance Scheme for Post-secondary Students (FASP) and Non-means-tested Loan Scheme for Post-secondary Students (NLSPS) from the Student Finance Office (SFO) of the Working Family and Student Financial Assistance Agency.
Five selected courses offered by the Programme have been included in the list of reimbursable courses under the Continuing Education Fund (CEF). Eligible students may apply for the Fund and receive subsidy with a ceiling of HK$25,000.
- Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSE)
(i) Level 3 or above in both Chinese Language and English Language; and
(ii) Level 2 or above in Mathematics (compulsory part); and
(iii) Attained in Citizenship and Social Development; and
(iv) Level 3 or above in two elective subjects*
* | One of the elective subjects must be a Category A subject (excluding Extended Part of Mathematics (Module 1 or Module 2)). Extended Part of Mathematics (Module 1 or Module 2) and Category C subjects (Other Languages) at Grade C or above , or Applied Learning Courses (either Health Care Practice or Foundation in Chinese Medicine) with “Attained with Distinction (I) or above” can be recognised for fulfilment of the second elective requirement. |
The preferred Category A subjects are Biology and Science: Combined Science. |

- Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination (HKALE) and Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE)
(i) HKALE
Grade E or above obtained in any two sittings:
・AS Use of English; and
・AS Chinese Language and Culture; and
・Either two AL subjects or one AL subject plus two AS subjects
and
(ii) HKCEE
Level 3/ Grade D or above in English Language (Syllabus B) AND Level 2 / Grade E or above in at least five subjects^ including Chinese Language in a single sitting (^The total grades of these five subjects are no less than 8 points.)
Or
- Other qualifications deemed acceptable by the School as equivalent to the General University Admission Requirements

- Applicants aged 25 or above with acceptable qualifications to justify admission

- How long will it take to complete this programme?
This Bachelor of Nursing (Honours) programme takes five years to complete (in full time mode).

What is the programme delivery mode?
This curriculum will be taught face-to-face with classes arranged during Monday to Saturday from 8:30 AM to 6:30 PM. It also includes annual clinical placement at various institutions for learning hands-on clinical practice, with clinical collaborating partners such as Hong Kong Baptist Hospital (private hospital setting) and the Hong Kong Hospital Authority (public hospital setting).

Our curriculum starts annually at the beginning of September.

How can I submit the enrolment application?
This programme accepts application via online, by post, as well as submission in person.

Is there any acknowledgement reply for application received?
Applicants shall receive an acknowledgment email from the School.

Will this programme accept applicants who have completed with other academic qualifications (such as overseas degree holder, Diploma Yi Jin, or sub-degree / associate degree / higher diploma programmes)?
Applicants with other academic qualifications will be accepted in equivalence to meet one of the following accreditations:
- HKDSE
(i) Level 3 or above in both Chinese Language and English Language; and
(ii) Level 2 or above in Mathematics (compulsory part); and
(iii) Attained in Citizenship and Social Development; and
(iv) Level 3 or above in two elective subjects*
* One of the elective subjects must be a Category A subject (excluding Extended Part of Mathematics (Module 1 or Module 2)). - Is there any equivalent qualifications to replace the requirement for English Language, such as fulfillment in GCE, GCSE, IGCSE or TOEFL?
Yes, by fulfilling ANY of the following examinations with a designated level or an “attained” grade is recognised by HKBU as comparable to Level 3 in English Language in HKDSE: -

Obtained TOEFL at 550 or above scores (paper-based) or 79 or above scores (internet-based); or
-
Obtained IELTS Academic Level (overall) 6.0 or above; or
-
Obtained Grade C or above in GCE O-Level/GCSE/IGCSE English; or
-
Obtained Grade E or above in GCE AS-Level or AL-Level English; or
-
Obtained Grade E or above in AS Use of English in HKALE.

- Will there be any schedule for admission interview?
Yes, the admission interviews are typically scheduled from March to July. - How would I know if I will be arranged for an admission interview?
You will receive an email invitation or a phone call to inform you about an admission interview for the programme. - When will the programme announce for official acceptance?

Programmes offered by the School of Continuing Education (leading to HKBU awards or SCE awards, or collaborative programmes) are conducted at various teaching venues, including Kowloon Tong and Shek Mun (Shatin) Campuses and Learning Centres in Tsimshatsui, Kowloon East, and Wan Chai. These venues are well-equipped to support students’ studies. While most of the classes are held at either the Kowloon Tong Campus or the Shek Mun Campus, depending on the School’s development, students may be assigned to take classes at other venues during their study period.
