Project Overview
The Innovative Gerontological Learning Hub (The Hub) is established in February 2024 and is funded by the Quality Enhancement Support Scheme. The Hub is embedded with virtual reality technology and simulation ageing tools to enable students and the public to experience the ageing process and the needs of older adults. The primary goal of the Hub is to empower both students and public with necessary knowledge and skills to take care of older adults.
Facilities
Upon entering the VR Cave Automatic Virtual Environment (CAVE) system, you will experience the challenges associated with aging.

Public Visit
Public Visit with St. James' Settlement, participants immersed themselves into the daily life of the older adults, wearing mobility-limiting gloves and experiencing the fine-motor challenges they face.
Public Visit with the Chinese University of Hong Kong students, the students experienced the physical challenges of aging by stepping into older adults’ daily lives[JC1.1], such as, travel by MTR, attending medical follow up.
Student Learning Activities
Our nursing students attending a Gerontology course donned aging-simulation suits, felt the weight of everyday tasks through restricted mobility and diminished vision. They came away with deeper respect and new insight into the daily struggles faced by older adults.
Training Workshop (Student/Teacher)
The training workshop brought together student helpers from different programmes to strengthen their skills in organizing and running activities. Participants practiced guiding attendees through exercises and engaging participants effectively. The workshop also deepen their understanding of ageing and leadership.
Teacher training turns technology into insight. It equips teachers to design multimodal learning activities and operate the Innovative Gerontological Learning Hub, enabling students to explore complex concepts in immersive virtual spaces.
